Students at Minooka Intermediate School learn early on that we showcase our character through the 3 R's and Paying it Forward. The 3 R's are: Respectful, Responsible, and Ready. Students learn about each of these characteristics throughout the school year.
Pride Arrows & Tokens
At Minooka Intermediate School, we reward positive behaviors that are shown by student's throughout the course of their day. Pride Tokens are tokens that hang on a small chain on students' lanyards. Tokens are given out by various staff members principals, teachers, fine arts staff, and even the lunch ladies. Their purpose is to remind students to show their good character and to reward them for it when it is observed. Staff members also give out Pride Arrows to those who go above and beyond and express their character by being Respectful, Responsible, and Ready. These Pride Arrows are entered into a weekly drawing. One student from each of our four 5th grade teams and three 6th grade teams is chosen each week. Pride Arrow winners have the opportunity to sit at the table of honor on our stage during their scheduled lunch time with a friend. They also receive a coveted token to hang on their ID chain.
Pay it Forward
Throughout the course of the school year, the concept of Kindness and Paying it Forward is talked about. Students continuously learn how doing a small kind deed for someone else can have a chain reaction and influence the whole school. This takes place in multiple areas of MIS: lunch hours, study hall, and assemblies to name a few. Each study hall class is even taking part in doing a kind deed for another class on their team. It is our hope, that this will impact the school community by having students focus on the positive influence they have on others.
