All Minooka District 201 students are assessed on their acquisition of Social Emotional Learning (SEL) skills three times per year, as defined by the districts Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS). At one time, this was called RtI, or Response to Intervention. Our district utilizes the DESSA to assess students social emotional learning. The results are used to monitor all students’ development in the areas of:
self-management
self-awareness
relationship skill
social awareness
personal responsibility
optimistic thinking
goal directed behaviors
decision-making skills
MTSS is used to help students make gains in one or more of these areas. Skills we will be working on may include, or extend beyond: attending and focusing on work, handling emotions appropriately in class, understanding the feelings/perspectives of others, controlling impulses, initiating and maintaining peer relationships, resolving conflicts with others appropriately and making responsible decisions. Students may also qualify to receive supports through MTSS for Reading or Math. To learn more about MTSS please visit the district webpage. Feel free to contact your social worker for more information.
